Omar Aziz-the IRC in Atlanta’s My New School Program Coordinator and longtime friend of Wisam-identified Wisam as a good potential participant for the IRC’s Career Development program. He ran the business from 2014 until 2019, but when he began to face financial hardship, he was forced to close the shop. Wisam named this business Sam’s Auto Sales and focused on restoring old cars to their original condition. Wisam personally repaired over 1000 vehicles during that time.Īfter arriving in Georgia, Wisam worked in several entry level manufacturing roles for five years before he saved enough money to start another mechanic business in Scottsdale, GA.
He explained that he always made a point to have a diverse workforce, employing individuals from Egypt, Sudan and other neighboring countries. In that time, Wisam managed a team of 10 mechanics. In addition to leaving his home country, Wisam also left behind a successful mechanics business that he ran over the course of 21 years from 1985 to 2006. Marta: In my free time, I engage in all sorts of creative activities and turn into a terrible bookworm. Interviewer: What are you passionate about outside of work?
I am also responsible for keeping recruiting data in order and preparing synthesis reports, which always feels like an opportunity to slow down a bit. I am constantly in touch with others, writing emails or talking on the phone. I create the agenda for the interview day and make sure candidates, interviewers, and recruiters receive all of the information they need. Much of what I do is interview planning and preparation. I plan my work for the day and prioritize requests. Whatever requests have not yet been resolved are added to my to-do list – I wouldn’t last a day without it.
Marta: My day usually starts around 8:30 am with a cup of strong coffee or tea and a quick read through my email. Interviewer: What is your typical day like? My team has helped me to carve out opportunities to train new members, which allows me to pursue my teaching passion. For example, I have always enjoyed coaching others.
